Bus AideDepartment: TransportationReports To: Director of TransportationFLSA Status: Non-ExemptEmployment Status: Full Time or Part TimeSalary: Based on Experience, $12.23 - $14.24 per hourMinimum Job RequirementsEducation: High School Diploma or GED PreferredExperience: 1 Year of experience working with special needs children preferredSkills: Ability to communicate appropriately with students, parents, and district staff. Understanding of wheelchair mechanics and bus lifts.Summary: Assist with the loading/unloading of special needs students. Responsible for the safe transport of the students to school. May assist with student emergency health needs.Essential Job Functions: These statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to the position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.Loads and unloads special needs children to and from the school bus as per district procedures and provides for their basic needs.Provides a safe and controlled atmosphere on the bus by ensuring that all riders are properly seat belted and that riders do not create problems for each other.Promotes fair and reasonable disciplinary practices in order to protect riders.Provides socialization and emotional support by displaying positive expectations, kindness and understanding of each student's needs.Abided by district safety standards and procedures.Follow proper wheelchair securement and ensure students are safely restrained before bus moves.Performs duties and responsibilities as requested by the Transportation Director or designee.Essential BehaviorAbility to use sound judgment in any situation. Ability to deal successfully and rapidly with changes in assignments and properly respond to applicable correspondence/communication received. Ability to project a professional company image through in-person, phone, and electronic interaction. Ability to build and foster harmonious rapport and work cooperatively with District staff and the public while achieving the objectives and goals of the position. Ability to handle problematic and/or difficult situations professionally by communicating with the appropriate person.Attendance StatementAble to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities with 95% attendance.Environmental ConditionsExposure to extremes of heat and cold.
